It has to be scientifically proven somewhere that kids who have pets are better adjusted, have more fun and are more responsible at a younger age. Prove it you say? OK I can’t, but any parent who has a kid or two and a dog or two can surely admit that it adds some unique wrinkles to traditional parenting.
Personally, I’m a very new parent so I’ve grabbed a few links that cover the topic. I’m dealing with keeping things sane with two dogs (one of them, Chingoo is below) and a newborn.

BabyCenter.com provides some expert advice that might not seem obvious:
One of the best things you can do is desensitize your pet to the rough handling young children can dole out. He’ll need to get comfortable being touched in places where small hands can go, like between paw pads, on the face, tail, and underside of the body, and in the ears and mouth.
LoveYourDog.com is a great start. It’s not the prettiest site, but has a ton of activities for kids and dogs and a daily tip.
Pets.com is another great resource that covers most traditional pets and proper training, care and routine scheduled maintenance.
New Dad Blog tackles the topic of having a few dogs and new baby (good read)
