We’ve all been there…3AM and the rug rat wants some formula or momma’s nectar. Only problem is, momma’s out of town and you don’t have warm water ready to mix up some powdered goodness. By the time you get the bottle ready and heat it up, then cool it down because you WILL over heat it…junior has a face full of tears and boogies and has sustained irreparable damage to his ego that will undoubtedly push him into a long term emo-esque stage as a teen. Forget throwing the football in the yard, you’ll be shopping for skinny jeans in the girl’s section…but I digress. The iiamo GO Baby Bottle concept from Karim Rashid not only looks like your feeding your kid with a Dyson or an IKEA lamp but it will warm the contents to room temperature WITHOUT ELECTRICITY or FIRE! Something about salt and chemistry or a voodoo heat spell…the point is, no more fussing with a bottle warmer or microwave or kerosene and a lighter.

Looking to kill some time and gather some interesting statistics for this evening’s dreaded couples night? I mean seriously, how awkward is it after you exhaust the go-to topics, work and sports, with Joe Husband while your wives are still chatting away about Jon, Kate, Tyra, The Bachelorette and Christian Siriano (see below)?

Brush up on your stats for small talk and check out Book of Odds.

Some interesting tid-bits:

1 in 92,950
The odds a person will die from choking on a non-food object in a year are 1 in 92,950 (US, 2005).

1 in 2.33
The odds a man will think about sex at least once a day are 1 in 2.33 (US, 8/2004).

Make sure that you check out the Visual Browse while you are there, it’s pretty fantastic.

Christin Siriano (or, well, his likeness)

I know, you’re a big tough guy who can carry your 15lb kid all day. Yup, look at you Hercules, 21 minutes into your trip to the mall and you’re squirming and shifting the little one’s weight to give your pasty arms a break. You need to stick that kid to your chest. Besides, with the kid strapped on, you have just freed up both hands…the exact number that you need to hold a beer and smoke a cigar…or if you’re not a complete degenerate, have a soda and wave to your pastor.

Personally, I use a Baby Bjorn (also at the bottom). But a friend of mine sent me a link to the Sakura Bloom Baby Sling and I’ll be honest, at first glance, seems a bit girly, but dude on the right is totally workin’ it.

A bit pricey, but if your woman is into the trendy faux earth-momma SUV driving hippie thing, she’ll probably dig it.

Also as mentioned (and my preferred baby attachment device), the Baby Bjorn:

Want to teach your kid their ABCs with a little more creativity than what Dora or Spongebob might have to offer? Have a designer or artist in the house? This is probably the book for you then.

Snagged from grainedit.com:

I’ve been a fan of Werner Design Werks for a few years now, so I was excited to hear about their recent release of alphabeasties: and other Amazing Types. This beautiful children’s book features animals crafted out of typefaces. How about an alligator set in Volta EF? You got it! There’s even a dachshund made out of “d”s set in Bauhaus. Gary fans rejoice!

In the same vein as Bruno Munari’s Alfabetiere, alphabeasties achieves a perfect balance of fun and well-executed design. Pick up a copy for your your kid, but don’t be suprised if you end it keeping all to yourself.

Check out their review here:

I’m putting together a post with some tips and tricks. Of course, since I am now a lactation, err baby feeding specialist, I should probably charge you for my advice.

That’s not today’s news. Today’s news is the PoppaBlog.com YouTube Channel.

Yeah, I know, there is only one video there right now, but be patient…the content and quality of the videos is only going to get better.

The little one has been “kind-of” drinking from a bottle. She was a little backed up, so the pediatrician said to give her some prune juice from a bottle, which she voraciously took. Two attempts (by women, not mom) to give her formula were met with mixed reviews. She loved (took an ounce before flipping out) the super expensive formula that comes in those little two ounce bottles (figures). And snubbed the commoner grade powder formula.

This is progress in my book. Especially considering one of the women that she took some formula from was her nanny (who is also her cousin). Now to see if she’ll take formula (or breast milk) from dear old dad…maybe we’ll get video of the attempt

Ew, wait a minute…that doesn’t sound right. I mean breast milk in a BOTTLE, from her mother. Sickos.

holy shit, cross colours still exists?

I took a late night stroll through Target last night looking for a few things. Here’s a tip, if you’re looking for a fly swatter in a Target store, it’ll be in the kitchen utensils section. Thank you to the little guy at the Ashburn, VA Target for helping me out…and no thanks to the three other associates that had no idea. I really do think that grocery stores and mega marts like Target should have a guru desk. Just one person, sitting at a desk, you take a number, ask them one question and you get the answer without dealing with the flunkies on the floor. Sheesh, I’m rambling today. My point of this post is that as I rounded a corner in the back of the store, there it was, the back to school section. True and terribly sad indicator that summer is almost over…of course Kmart’s Christmas in July sale is way more depressing and confusing, but I digress. I thought to myself last night that a “Getting Your Kids Back to School, the PoppaBlog Way” post was in order. Then I looked at my <del datetime="2009-07-16T12:16:31+00:00">army</del> small huddled mass of writers and realized nobody here <del datetime="2009-07-16T12:16:31+00:00">writes</del> has kids that are junior high school aged or older, forget college. So what to do? Well, here’s an Amazon link for back to school deals:

Outside of me reliving my high school and college years and telling you to be sure to get your kids some stone washed Levis Silvertab jeans, a Trapper Keeper and some Cross Colours t-shirts, I don’t think I’d be very helpful in getting your kids what they want and need for this upcoming school year. So I am here begging someone, one of our loyal handful of readers to step up and nominate yourself or a friend who has some kids that are over the age of 10-12 and would be willing to write from that angle…you know the angle where your kids are not old enough to kick out of the house for being a pain in the you know what but too old to sit in time-out. Yeah, the magic years…on the cusp of rebelling and staying out late, enduring the day to day fight of wanting to be a teenager but still struggling to stop listening to the Jonas Brothers, and of course the awkward sex talk years. We need posts about the sex talk, we need someone to write about teaching the little, ahem, young man how to shave that ridiculous peach fuzz off of his lip, that’s what we’re looking for!

The catch, we can’t pay you, yet…get in touch, leave a comment…PoppaBlog is still in the red, but once we start making some money, the writers shall get paid!
